This traditional Nepalese hat called Dhaka Topi is worn by Nepalese as a part of their national dress of Daura-Suruwal and also worn during the festival celebration especially during the main Hindu festival of Dashain and Tihar.
It is also given away as a gift during these festivals.
Traditionally these hats were made out of fine cotton cloth specially imported from Dhaka present day Bangladesh, hence the name Dhaka ko topi. But during modern times cotton thread needed to make these hats are produced in Nepal itself and dyed into various bright colours and were woven in hand loomed by traditional craftsmen from Nepal into elegant pattern design. These Nepalese produced cotton were popularly known as Palapai Dhaka, as its production first started in Palpa district of Nepal.
